The Sydney Roosters announced last night the immediate signing of rising Eels star Anthony Mitchell.
The 22-year-old made his debut last year and earned a call-up in February’s All-Stars match.
The acquisition of a handy attacking hooker is timely because the last time the Roosters’ attack was so poor, the dollar had just replaced the pound and tries were worth only three points.
The year was 1966, when Easts, as they were then known, not only collected the wooden spoon after losing every game, but failed to score more than 12 points in any of their final nine games.
Forty-five years later, the Roosters have plumbed similar depths, having failed to better 13 points in their past nine matches, seven of which last year’s grand finalists lost.
