Melbourne Storm’s Kiwi Test forward Sika Manu is set to test his value on the open market.
A day after Queensland Origin hopeful Daly Cherry-Evans sought a release from Manly, Manu is ready to explore his options as the Storm also face a fight to retain Maroons duo Cooper Cronk and Dane Nielsen.
Off contract at the end of the season, 25-year-old Manu has established a reputation as one of the code’s most destructive forwards and could attract offers upwards of $300,000 a season.
Manu was linked with North Queensland after the Storm’s salary cap scandal in 2010. While he is happy in Melbourne, the rugged back-rower is keen to assess his market value.
“Sika will go on to the open market,” Orr said. “He is looking around, but we’ll sit down and talk to Melbourne first.”
“I believe Melbourne will do everything in their power to keep Sika, but a lot will depend on their salary cap situation.”
