Ryan Stig
Off contract

Off contract Newcastle Knights rookie playmaker Ryan Stig has been reassured by incoming coach Wayne Bennett that he has a future at the club next season.

Stig has been a revelation in his first four NRL games and other clubs are understood to have expressed interest in his services.

Current coach Rick Stone was hopeful Newcastle would retain the 21-year-old but said there were complicating factors.

“I know the club is talking to his manager and working through the process, and Wayne is keen to have him here,” Stone said.

“There’s a little bit of water to go under the bridge because there are still a few things we need to do with our list before we know where we’re going and what sort of money we’ve got left.

“But as we’ve said all along, Ryan’s been good, he’s taken his opportunity and he’s definitely up to NRL standard.”
