David Stagg gives a wry laugh when he gets asked about retirement – again.
The 29-year-old has built a solid, gutsy career that has netted a premiership and an Origin jersey. He played in an NRL grand final for the Bulldogs less than 12 months ago.
He is approaching his 200th NRL match after chalking up his century for the Broncos a couple of weeks ago.
And retirement questions make the Aspley junior smile.
“It keeps getting asked every year,” he said ahead Sunday’s match against the Dragons at Suncorp Stadium.
“I’m keen even though I have had a couple of little injuries this year.
“It (injury) might have prolonged my career – I look at it that way.
“I hope we can sort something out before the year is over.”
