Newcastle co-captain Jeremy Smith is poised to announce he will hang up his boots at the end of the season after 13 seasons in the NRL.

The former Kiwi Test forward, who at 36 is the oldest current player in the NRL, is expected to make it official at a 10am press conference this morning.

It is understood he has been weighing up his future over the past few weeks after telling Knights coach Nathan Brown he wanted to retire on his own terms.

  1. Yeah it has being announced he will retire at the end of the season. Great career – sharks / storm etc.

  2. Awesome player… For me he was the leader of the Dragons pack when we won the comp… Tough no nonsense forward just as they should be

    • 100% agree.

Smith & Beau Scott added the starch to Saints pack that was sadly missing before & after 2010

      • +1 champion player (even if he did spend time at the Sharks) tough as nails and our fwd pack went to poo when he left.

  3. Good servant for every club he has played for he is a work horse and love his tackling technique. But it is time to do it I’m sure he will be a member of the staff at Newcastle
