Could the Knights be considering bringing Matt Orford to Newcastle next season?
A Zero Tackle insider has reported that Orford was spotted on the Central Coast over the weekend having a drink with Ryan Tandy. When asked what he was doing in the neighbourhood, Orford replied that he was taking a break and talking to the Knights.
With word out of Newcastle this morning that half Beau Henry isn’t wanted under new coach Wayne Bennet, the Knights could be on the lookout for a new half to partner Jarrod Mullen. And Orford would no doubt be a cheap option after a disappointing return to the NRL so far for the Canberra Raiders.
It remains to be seen who will be playing where for the Knights in 2012. Captain Kurt Gidley has recently re-signed but with the rumoured signing of Darius Boyd, Gidley might need to move to accommodate him. Would a spine of Boyd (fullback), Mullen (five-eighth), Orford (halfback) and Gidley (hooker) be the answer for the Knights?
