South Sydney Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire has initiated talks to extend Adam Reynolds’ future at Redfern despite growing speculation the halfback is on the outer.

Young playmaker Luke Keary replaced Reynolds with 15 minutes to go in Friday night’s win over Parramatta and Keary set up a vital try with his first touch.

The decision to bench Reynolds and allow Keary to partner skipper John Sutton in the halves was seen as significant and only intensified talk that Reynolds’ position in the team is under threat.

But Reynolds’ manager Steve Gillis revealed he spoke to Maguire recently and it was the coach who indicated the halfback’s future was well and truly safe.
