Live Commentary

FULLTIME - QLD 32 - NSW 6
A messy finish there. Addo-Carr in the bin for throwing a punch, Luai and Walsh sent off for head butting, but it won't matter. Queensland the dominant Origin champions in 2023.

76' - QLD 32 - NSW 6
Holmes adds the extras.

75' - QLD 30 - NSW 6
And the Maroons are over again! A crossfield kick, Cook had it, but is taken out of the air by his own teammate Addo-Carr, and Jeremiah Nanai dives on the loose ball to score.

73' - QLD 26 - NSW 6
So, the Blues give up their challenge here on a Mitchell Moses knock on in the play the ball.

71' - QLD 26 - NSW 6
Game starting to fizzle out now. This is well and truly over.

67' - QLD 26 - NSW 6
Moeaki Fotuaika drops the ball, Tino Fa'asuamaleaui gives away a penalty and then, on the attack, Hudson Young drops it. Sums up the blues night.

65' - QLD 26 - NSW 6
Valentine Holmes slots the conversion.

64' - QLD 24 - NSW 6
And the Maroons are over again! That will do it. Xavier Coates the try-scorer this time.

63' - QLD 20 - NSW 6
NSW can't make much of the attack, then after having Munster force a drop out, give away a penalty.

60' - QLD 20 - NSW 6
So, now a penalty for the Blues to get out of their own end. Can they find some momentum?

58' - QLD 20 - NSW 6
Stephen Crichton doing the kicking here, so that's something of a surprise given Moses is in the side. He slots it.

57' - QLD 20 - NSW 4
The Blues are finally over! It's come more or less out of nothing, but a nice short ball from Luai to Young puts him halfway through the line. Young's offload hits the ground, Tedesco recovers and he sends Cook away to score.

55' - QLD 20 - NSW 0
Well, the Blues must find a way to score right here. Time is getting away, and there is a lot of work to do. Not much thrown through the first half of the set, and nor on the fourth as Haas is tackle on the crash ball. Fifth tackle sees the ball hit the ground, and the NSW attack is just at a complete and utter loss here. Moses kicks on the last, Crichton grabs it and can't get rid of it to To'o.

54' - QLD 20 - NSW 0
The Blues head upstairs for a captain's challenge here. Bomb comes down to Luai after a challenge, but no call of six again. He is tackled, and the Blues go for the challenge. Certainly no touch on Holmes in the contest, but Walsh has hit Luai high, so it'll be a penalty for the Blues.

52' - QLD 20 - NSW 0
No dice on the conversion for Holmes.

51' - QLD 20 - NSW 0
This is rapidly getting away from the Blues now. The Maroons are over again on the left edge through Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow.

50' - QLD 16 - NSW 0
The Blues right on the attack again and the desperation to score is setting in. They head left, Cook looks for a tap on at left centre, and it winds up in touch.

49' - QLD 16 - NSW 0
The Blues then pick up a six again, before Collins shuts down Robson on a half break. The Blues right on the attack, they head right and Crichton is stopped a metre out. Last play, Moses withthe crossfield kick, the ball bcomes a pinball and the Blues win another six tackles.

47' - QLD 16 - NSW 0
Fifita invites the Blues back onto the attack here with an error.

45' - QLD 16 - NSW 0
Holmes slots the conversion.

43' - QLD 14 - NSW 0
Set for set to start the second half, but then it's a break for the Maroons. Walsh through, and picks up a six again out of it. The Maroons make the Blues pay as well, finding space and sending Valentine Holmes over out wide for his second try.

40' - QLD 10 - NSW 0
Amazingly, Cameron Murray hasn't played a minute of that first half.

40' - QLD 10 - NSW 0
Teams are back for the second half!

40' - QLD 10 - NSW 0
The Blues can't make anything of it and have it all to do in the second half here.

38' - QLD 10 - NSW 0
So then, the Blues with a penalty out of their own end and they will have 90 seconds to make something with the ball in hand.

37' - QLD 10 - NSW 0
In what seems to be a running theme, Queensland defending their own line again, and NSW making a mistake - Jarome Luai this time.

35' - QLD 10 - NSW 0
Holmes slots the conversion.

33' - QLD 8 - NSW 0
The Maroons send through Cherry-Evans off a lovely short ball from Carrigan. The Blues have to scramble to shut Cherry-Evans down, but are then left badly outnumbered on the left-hand side. Grant drifted across to Walsh, who found Fifita, with a forward-looking pass to Tabuai-Fidow, who then threw another line ball pass to Taulagi and he runs away to score.

32' - QLD 4 - NSW 0
The Blues now right on the attack as Queensland scramble. Nothing on the second, then Luai almost had space, but is tackled. Moses runnings right, runs left and is tackled. The Blues just struggling for any real zing in their attack here, and they head left on the fifth before Cook puts it down.

31' - QLD 4 - NSW 0
So then, NSW on the back foot here. Scrambling in defence, but then it all breaks down and there is another coming together between the two sides. Cherry-Evans seemed to be taken to ground by Luai and then it just exploded. Anyway, on we go. Queensland with two plays left. Carrigan has a charge but can't find a way through, then Grant with a grubber and To'o! Grabs it out of the air, but what a chase. Cherry-Evans runs 85 metres to shut down To'o just 15 out.

28' - QLD 4 - NSW 0
So, the Blues again struggling to find a way through, but it's a six again and the weight of possession might tell on the Queensland defence here... Or, no it won't. Tedesco with a cut out ball looking for To'o, but that winds up in touch.

26' - QLD 4 - NSW 0
And a penalty for the Blues coming out of trouble.

25' - QLD 4 - NSW 0
The Blues struggling to find a way through the Queenslanders here. Virtually a full set in the red zone and that will down as a missed opportunity. Nice attack to the left, but Damien Cook tackled on the last playing out of position.

23' - QLD 4 - NSW 0
The Blues back on the attack. Strong set before a Moses chip kick heads into the in goal. Sits up nicely with the halfback chasing through, but the Maroons clean up and a drop out will be the result.

22' - QLD 4 - NSW 0
The Maroons go down the right-hand sideline this time for Nanai who then tries the pass out wide, but it sails into touch. Dangerous though.

21' - QLD 4 - NSW 0
End to end again here, but the Blues winning the battle. Lovely Moses kick, and Walsh is pinned on his own goalline here for the Maroons, who are now stuck inside their own 20 on the fourth tackle. Good run from Walsh on the fifth, but Cherry-Evans has to kick from inisde his own 30 on the last.

18' - QLD 4 - NSW 0
The Blues starting to get on top of the field position battle here. Back over halfway on the fourth after a solid Queensland set out of trouble. Paulo a good run, then Moses kicks high, but Queensland will dive on a ball on the ground through Tino Fa'asuamaleaui who is making some enormous effort plays at the moment.

17' - QLD 4 - NSW 0
Outstanding play from Cameron Munster. Not a bad grubber into the in goal from Jarome Luai, but Munster collects, stops on a dime, pivots, and gets the ball back to ten metres out. Blues were at sixes and sevens attempting to make a stop.

15' - QLD 4 - NSW 0
The game was finding some sort of rhythm there for a moment, before Hudson Young and Thomas Flegler wind up in some push and shove. Penalty Blues, and they will march onto the attack right here.

10' - QLD 4 - NSW 0
Holmes sprays the conversion. Still can't quite believe that was awarded.

9' - QLD 4 - NSW 0
Up to the bunker. Queensland claiming a try, but Ashley Klein not convinced. Off a kick to the corner, Xavier Coates went into an aerial battle with Josh Addo-Carr. The bunker rule it is only off the hands of Addo-Carr, before Valentine Holmes seemed to bobble the put down. Oh wow the bunker have awarded it.

8' - QLD 0 - NSW 0
The Blues then on the attack off a penalty. Luai with a grubber and that will go too long.

5' - QLD 0 - NSW 0
Looks like Damien Cook has gone to left centre here for the Blues which is just an enormous development in this game. Stephen Crichton has shifted out to the other side.

3' - QLD 0 - NSW 0
Well, a massive problem here for the Blues. They shut down the Maroons on a left-hand side attacking raid, but Tom Trbojevic is down with a shoulder injury. He looked to take down Walsh and hyper-extended his arm before hitting the ground. Could be a shoulder or a pectoral injury as he comes off the ground here. Blues will need to reshuffle.

2' - QLD 0 - NSW 0
The Maroons struggling to work it out of their own end. Plenty of extra work on David Fifita here and the Maroons win a penalty to bring it out of their own end.

1' - QLD 0 - NSW 0
Away we go! The Blues with a strong first set, all the forwards involved before a kick down to the corner will pin the Queenslanders there as they bring it out.

8:02pm
Teams are on their way out in Brisbane! National anthems to come, then it'll be time for kick-off.

7:30pm
Time for Shannon Noll to headline the pre-game entertainment.

7:10pm
The teams are in. Queensland have elected to start Reuben Cotter in the second row, and Thomas Flegler in the front row. That sees Lindsay Collins and Jeremiah Nanai shuffle back to the interchange bench. The Blues have gone with Reece Robson to start at hooker on debut, with Damien Cook to come from the bench. No other changes for either team, with Queensland winning the coin toss and electing to kick-off. Kick-off is at 8:05pm (AEST).
