North Queensland Cowboys player Michael Parker-Walshe has reportedly asked for a release from his playing contract.
The club is believed to be considering the young five-eighth’s request after the shock of yesterday’s announcement.
Parker-Walshe was due to step up to the Cowboys’ full-time NRL squad for the first time this year after signing a one-year contract at te end of last season.
The playmaker finished as the second highest try-scorer in the under-20s National Youth Competition.
He was one of several playmakers listed in the top squad, alongside Ray Thompson, Robert Lui, Johnathan Thurston, Michael Morgan and Ben Jones.
