He might be older than both the Broncos’ first-choice halves, but Darren Nicholls is content to be back in Brisbane ready to learn and wait for his chance.

Nicholls, 26, was given a release early this year from the Broncos after South Sydney chased the former Rabbitohs’ and Tigers’ lower grader following some injuries to their halves.

He sat on the cusp of the NRL, but was quick to jump at the opportunity to come back to the Broncos for the 2016 pre-season.

With young halves Ashley Taylor (Titans) and Jayden Nikorima (Roosters) leaving Brisbane, Nicholls is a handy addition to the squad.

Considered one of the best halves in the Queensland Cup before moving south, he provides cover for his younger teammates Hunt, 25, and 21-year-old Milford.

    • Your a dead set jackass
He was let go much like Taylor due to get a crack at first grade
Taylor was never gonna get a HB spot over Hunt so he was told to move on
As too Nicholls he was had a chance to sign with Souths and he was more of a chance at getting a shot
      At first grade with Souths

      • He was “let go” to get a start with Souths and didn’t, So nothing has changed and he signs back with the donkeys! Actually Souths had a few injuries to their halves this year and he still didn’t get a run…..like Insaid great player, a real heard improver?

  1. Yea bigkev u jackass… The broncos r not going to hold a young bloke back, on getting a chance of playing nrl. They did it with, Taylor, Purcell, Granville an j.nito . There pretty happy with the team we have so getting a young fellow back just in case is a good move , its called plan for the future . If Benny or milf go down we have some back up.

  2. Hope Ash Taylor comes back one day. He was meant to be our next superstar. Glad we’ve got more depth though in our halves. Kodi will get first crack as back up though
