North Queensland Cowboys superstar Matt Bowen could be lost to England if he doesn’t get the three-year deal he’s chasing.
Bowen upped the ante in his bid for a further three seasons in Townsville with a heroic display, albeit in vain, in the Cowboys’ 38-18 loss to Wests Tigers at Dairy Farmers Stadium on Saturday night.
The Cowboys don’t want Bowen to leave, but perhaps concerned by his two recent knee operations and the fact the diminutive custodian turns 30 next year, have only offered him a two-year contract.
But Saturday night’s effort is surely a bargaining chip the Cairns product now has up his sleeve as talks continue between the club and Bowen’s agent Wayne Beavis.
Bowen has already been linked to Super League club-in-waiting Widnes and has made no secret of his desire to move to England if the Cowboys don’t come to the party.
