Cronulla forward Luke Lewis is set to become just the 28th player to notch 300 NRL games when he takes the field for the Sharks tonight against South Sydney.

Lewis played 208 games for the Penrith Panthers before moving to Cronulla in 2013. He has since played a further 91 games for the Sharks moving his overall tally to 299.

Lewis will be the third active player (behind Ryan Hoffman and Chris Heighington) to achieve the milestone this season.

North Queensland Cowboys halfback Johnathan Thurston is currently stranded on 299 after suffering a season ending injury ahead of his 300th match.

Brisbane great Darren Lockyer has played the most NRL games in history, with a 355-game career spanning 17 seasons between 1995-2011.

The fullback turned five-eighth may not hold that place at the top of the list for long, as Melbourne skipper Cameron Smith is bearing down on him.

If Smith can stay uninjured, he should eclipse Lockyer’s record this season.
