Ben Hannant

The Newcastle Knights are keen to lure out-of-favour Brisbane Broncos prop Ben Hannant to Newcastle to reinforce their depleted pack for the rest of the NRL season and beyond.

The 29-year-old former Queensland and Australian front-rower has reportedly fallen out with Broncos coach Anthony Griffin, who dropped him this week to Brisbane’s Queensland Cup feeder club Ipswich Jets.

Instead of playing for the Broncos against North Queensland in Townsville tonight, the veteran of 178 NRL games in the past 10 seasons will line up for the Jets against Central Capras at Ipswich tomorrow.

Hannant is contracted to the Broncos until the end of the season, but the Newcastle Herald has been told the Knights have spoken to him about the prospect of moving to the Hunter before the June 30 transfer deadline.
