Why was New Zealand Warriors forward Sebastine Ikahihifo in the Knights’ inner sanctum after their 30-28 loss to Cronulla at Hunter Stadium on Sunday. Nothing in it, according to the Knights and Ikahihifo’s manager, Gavin Orr.
Orr indicated the 24-year-old two-time Junior Kiwis representative was off contract at the end of the season and was on the look-out for a club for 2016.
Newcastle are in the market for a ‘‘middle’’ forward, and the 183cm, 105kg Ikahihifo, who played alongside Knights five-eighth Carlos Tuimavave in the Warriors’ premiership-winning National Youth Cup teams in 2010 and 2011, fits that description.
Knights chief executive Matt Gidley said they were not interested in Ikahihifo, which appears to rule out a mid-season transfer before the June 30 deadline.
