The Newcastle Knights members have voted in favour of the Tinkler Sports Group’s historic takeover proposal of the club.
The deal guarantees $10 million sponsorship a year over the next ten years.
Needing 75 per cent to exact change, members overwhelming backed Tinkler’s proposal with 97 per cent voting in favour of the takeover.
The Knights have been chasing a number of high profile players such as Jamal Idris and Kade Snowden, as well as trying to snare super coach Wayne Bennett. With the Tinkler proposal approved, the likelihood of these signings has increased. The rumour mill will be working overtime in the next few days.
As well as chasing new players though, the Knights can now look to lock up some of their off-contract players. Captain Kurt Gidley will be a priority as well as hooker Isaac De Gois.
