On the same day that Greg Inglis signed with South Sydney, there were moves to sell centre Jamie Simpson to the Newcastle Knights.

Despite continued assurances from Souths boss Shane Richardson that no player will be forced out of the Rabbitohs to make room for Inglis, at least one rival – and possibly more – has been sounded out over Simpson, who still has a year to run on his contract.

Newcastle official Keith Onslow yesterday confirmed he took a phone call on Friday, the day Inglis officially signed with the Rabbitohs.
