Anthony Griffin

Anthony Griffin and Wayne Bennett could potentially swap NRL jobs, with the Newcastle Knights indicating it could be interested in the dumped Brisbane Broncos coach.

Former ARL chief executive John Quayle, who along with Newcastle chief executive Matt Gidley and chairman Paul Harragon sits on the advisory board, said they were in the process of narrowing down a list of candidates for interviews.

If Griffin is interested in the Newcastle role, he will face competition from Rick Stone. Stone was the first grade coach at Newcastle for three years until Bennett replaced him there in 2011 and he has spent the past three years working as his assistant.

It is hoped that a decision could be made on a replacement within a month.
