Wests Tigers enforcer Gareth Ellis will leave the club at the end of this season after being granted a release from the final year of his contract on compassionate grounds.
After getting married in England to partner Rachael over the off-season, the British International decided to return home sooner than scheduled to raise his young family.
He approached Tigers boss Stephen Humphreys and coach Tim Sheens for a release earlier this week and announced the news to teammates at the end of this afternoon’s training session.
Ellis was contracted until the end of 2013 and has been the Tigers’ stand-out forward since making his NRL debut in 2009.
The 30-year-old will resume playing in the UK Super League in 2013 but is yet to commence negotiations with any English clubs.
