Parramatta are poised to revive their interest in Israel Folau and target Manly five-eighth Kieran Foran as they look to compensate for the loss of one superstar by signing another.
Folau represents the dream signing, although the impending Rugby World Cup means he won’t be available until 2016 at the earliest. More immediately, the Eels are expected to announce the signing of Manly forward Anthony Watmough in coming days and may explore the possibility of recruiting either of the available Brisbane fullbacks — Josh Hoffman and Ben Barba.
Hoffman, who has been given permission to leave the Broncos, is also in the sights of Canterbury and the New Zealand Warriors. Barba shapes as the most intriguing alternative given he has lost the fullback spot at the Broncos and is set to be usurped as five-eighth by Anthony Milford.
Notably, he and Parramatta coach Brad Arthur share the same manager. Arthur also has strong ties at Manly, where Foran and Daly Cherry-Evans come off contract at the end of next season. Given the rocky relationship between Cherry-Evans and Watmough, Foran appears the more likely target and it is believed Eels officials are ready to launch a big-money bid to snatch the New Zealand international.
