Shannon Walker is set to harness the lessons learnt in his four years in rugby sevens to seal a deal with his first football love.

Walker will make his Titans return at the Auckland Nines this weekend and is determined to use the extra space on offer in the format to show why the Gold Coast should offer him a fulltime NRL contract.

The 27-year-old, who turned his back on the chance to represent Australia at the Olympics when rugby sevens makes its Games debut in Rio to be closer to his family, says he’s as fit and fast as he’s ever been.

And he is determined to impress coach Neil Henry this weekend.

“The whole pre-season is (designed) to impress in every area you can, so that’s what I’ve been trying to do, just give it one last crack and just get a gig wherever possible,’’ he said.
