Brian Smith
Losing control

Sydney Roosters Brian Smith must step down from his post and let assistant Matthew Elliott assume the reins if the Bondi battlers are to salvage anything from the 2011 NRL season, Gorden Tallis believes.

“Bring Matt Elliott in straight away,” Tallis said when asked on Fox Sports’ Monday Night Football post-game show to find a solution for a Sydney Roosters side that had just been thumped by the Canberra Raiders.

“They’re not reacting to Brian Smith.

“As a footy club, they went to a grand final; there’s something bad going on at the club.

“They’re not reacting, they’re not listening, they’re not doing what they (should) do.”

The former Queensland captain said that Smith had lost the support of his players.

“The Roosters don’t have any faith in the coaching staff,” he said.

Fox Sports commentator Warren Smith disagreed with Tallis, however, saying it made little sense to promote a coach who had just been sacked by the Penrith Panthers.
