Panthers is delighted to announce Dallin Watene-Zelezniak has secured his immediate playing future by signing a one-year extension with the club.

The new deal means the 20-year-old Kiwi will remain with the Panthers until at least the end of 2017.

“It’s awesome to have committed to the Panthers for another year,” Watene-Zelezniak said.

“There is a lot to look forward to with our current squad, and all the young players coming through, and I’m excited to be a part of it.”

While many NRL players pursue long-term contracts with their clubs, Watene-Zelezniak said the decision to sign only a one-year extension was his own.

“I’ve always signed one-year deals as it gives me extra motivation and makes sure I’m working hard to earn my place in the team,” he said.

“The Panthers have shown a lot of belief in my abilities and I am determined to repay that faith on the field.”

  1. That means one of Soward or Wallace is leaving and Moylan will shift to the Halves… I remember DWZ stating he only originally signed for One year because he wanted to play Fullback… Interesting

  2. I don’t recall Dallin saying that, hayne2roosters(nowSanFran), this is a great re-signing, now hopefully Peter Wallace goes.

    • Yeah im not sure where to find the article now or if he said it in a interview maybe ZT can back me up? But i agree if im a Panthers fan then id rather Soward stay and DWZ is a great young player who basically schooled Mini in the 2014 semi im sure you remember but Dallain appears to have no fear and pretty tough for his age. us New Zealanders are lucky to have him and Roger for a decade to come.. Never forget his first run in the NRL though getting smashed by Matai but to his credit he got straight up and played well

  3. this should be Penriths spine with Martin on the bench as a utility to gain experience similar to Brisbane and hunt until he can take over from soward

    DWZ 1
    Moylan 6
    Soward 7
    Segyaro 9

  4. “Oh I like 1 year deals when I signed one in 2015 for 2016 and I hope I just have the fire in me to stay.” oh please. 1 year deals are a waste of time. Just sign for at least two if you have the fire.

  5. with players focused on securing there futures, 1 yr deals do seem a bit strange. Even so, the contract means jack $hit anyway because it seems like at any time a player can move on or be moved on, happens every year with almost every club
