The St George Illawarra Dragons have announced that Nene Macdonald has agreed to terms on a three-year contract that will see him join the Club next season, until at least the end of 2019.

The Cairns Brothers junior, who can play on the wing or in the centres, is presently under contract to the Gold Coast Titans and has played 43 NRL games to date.

Macdonald, 22, made his first-grade debut for the Sydney Roosters during the 2014 season and has represented the Papua New Guinea Kumuls on five occasions.

The NRL World All-Stars representative (2016) will join the Dragons in November.

      • Nightingale’s days are numbered. He was a legend for the club, but his form this year has been woeful, his positional play in defense is terrible, he makes no metres, can’t bust tackles and is as slow as a wet week. Mann has outscored in about 5 to 1 despite playing about 1/5th the games. Milne will never be dropped,
he will be one of the centres, he is a marquis signing.

    • He plays left wing currently, Knightingale plays right. Although I’m sure he could play both.
He’s been good this year though so it’s disappointing to see him leave

  1. Sucks to see him go, but we’re lucky that we’ve got a couple of Junior Kangaroos (Olive, Kelly and Davis) and a Junior Kiwi (Leleisiuao) that could take his spot. Would be interesting to see what happens if Hoffman joins the Eels.

  2. another player whos career will be over … anyone who signs with them ends up on the scrap heap …believe that

    • Not strange at all as we need speed out wide. Happy with this signing.

Does any smell a deal being done with the Bulldogs for Wiiliams in return for Leilua???
I just cannot believe that after losing Jack Bird we would fall for the same thing again.
Nene should replace Nightingale, I like Mann and he looks like he can offer more in attack so I don’t think the wing position is good for him.
      Cheers

      • I agree, Florence’s time is coming to an end and Mann looks pretty good. After the horrible debut he’s improved a lot. He like most wingers though these days can’t mark up to save his life, so getting him to 5/8th is a smart move. But if Widdop is 1/2, doesn’t that make Hutchinson a spare parts player.

I can’t the bald dud, moving Widdop, he’ll do something stupid like keep florence, drop Mann and put Lafai to hooker

        • Lafai to Hooker…….it should be Lafai out the door!!

Be careful, I fear that Supercoach is noting down some of this stuff

  3. Dragons squad should look something like this next year, If they want to be in finals contention

South Sydney continue to lead the membership race with 29,401 devoted supporters.

  5. South Sydney have taken the Silvertails mantle from rivals Manly. Research conducted by Repucom on the eight finals teams shows that the average Bunnies fan has a higher personal income than their Sea Eagles counterparts. The Rabbitohs have long been known as battlers, a team unable to compete with the open chequebook policy of powerful clubs such as Manly and the Roosters.
How times have changed. Souths, just one win away from a grand final, are bankrolled by multi-millionaires Russell Crowe and Peter Holmes a Court, who have turned the players into the Armani army. Things aren’t too shabby for their fans either, who are the top moneymakers ahead of Cronulla, the Roosters and Manly.
‘‘The team with the wealthiest fans is the South Sydney Rabbitohs – their fans’ average income is higher than any of the other teams in final series,’’ said Lynne Anderson, the managing director of Repucom for New Zealand and Australia. She added, tongue in cheek: ‘‘We don’t think we interviewed Peter Holmes a Court or Russell Crowe in this survey.’’
There were other interesting findings from the survey, an annual study of 10,000 adults. Brisbane, with a fan base of 906,787, is the best-supported club ahead of Melbourne (744,377), St George Illawarra (480,462), Parramatta (365,421) and Souths (311,285). But no fan base bleeds for their club like the Bulldogs in this finals series. ‘‘The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have the most passionate fan base heading into the 2013 NRL finals series with three quarters of fans claiming to be avid supporters of the club,’’ Anderson said.
‘‘Recent years have seen the club recover from major scandals to restore its place as one of the most popular and passionately supported teams in the NRL.’

  7. Disapionted to see he go but good luck for him.
    IMO titans team in 2017
    1. Hayne
    2. Olive
    3. Sarginson
    4. Hurrel
    5. Olive
    6. Elgey

    10. James
    11. Mcqueen
    12. Taia
    13. Bird
    14. Douglas
    15. Pulu
    16. Paasi
    17. Jed Cartwright

    • Looks like a good team …..Olive might have a bit of ground to cover lol, would you go with Don or Hoffman for that other wing spot.

    • Actually i reckon Davis would be a better option, same height and build as Nene and has the same kind of aerial threat.

    • I would like to see Douglas gone from that list. He keeps making stupid errors and doesnt bring enough from the bench. I’m not sure who would replace him though.
Although this is a disappointing loss considering hes been in such good form recently, we do have some good young talent coming through out wide. I’m still hoping that Mead will re sign though – however it does seem to be a distant hope. I thought they may have played Mead this weekend as it could potentially be his last game for the club and he has been here forever (also he is so much better than Don!)

      • Lol yea sorry i meant to put davis as the other wing. I dont mind Douglas but I really hate Shillo he can really annoy me at times. Also im not sure who to replace if no Douglas. Maybe Tuiasau could do the job. Just checked his profile 116kg and 187cm tall could do a good job. Im hearing Mead off to rugby union but i would like him to continue on for this season as he will do a much better job than Don.
I’ve given up on beating the Cowboys. (I think it will be close but cowboys to class) but i am hoping Raiders beat tigers. Big weekend ahead.

        • Alot depends on if the storm beat the sharks, Ricky will play a full strength squad if the Raiders can claim second spot and a home semi. Titan1 your too hard on Douglas he always goes out and gives 100 percent reminds me a bit of Bull Bailey. Lawton might be close to grabbing a spot on the bench as well.

        • I dont Rate Lawton, I would prefer to have someone like Tuiasau could do a job. 116kg and 187cm on our bench would not hurt. Im hoping for a good season in 2017 and finish strong in 2016

  8. As a Dragons fan, I’m a bit sad they’re losing a local junior in Rein. Maybe they could try Mcrone in a Peter Wallace like role until they get a junior or marquee hooker?

Mann can’t be dropped after the season he has had so I guess it’s Nightingale who would have to finish.

    • Thats using some brains mate, and our club doesnt have any… and not a bad suggestion as McCrone is ok in defense.

  9. dragqueens losing leulia to sharks rather than getting rid of nightingfool … maybe now you can see why there such a hopeless administration that rubs off onto the team … believe that

  10. Really with all this Souths
Mate you your team is gone
Will be nowhere in the next
    5 years
I have nothing against them until I came on here
And read all your dribble about them
Now I love seeing them get beat
And I will be happy to watch them get smacked next year
Go every team that plays Souths

  11. Shame that, was a very quality winger and is future origin material. I’d imagine dragons would have paid huge overs for him as he was quite settled on the gold coast and still had a year to run on his contract. Hopefully Mary and co don’t ruin his career like they have with Lafai, Marshall and Widopp.
