The Brisbane Broncos have made moves to secure boom utility Gerard Beale amid speculation the St George Illawarra Dragons are circling the Kiwi Test star.
The battle for Beale’s signature is intensifying, with the Broncos having begun preliminary talks with his agent Isaac Moses, who insisted yesterday the 21-year-old had not agreed to terms with St George Illawarra.
While the Broncos are hopeful they have fiscal scope within the salary cap to retain Beale and Ben Te’o, their two remaining off-contract top-liners, Brisbane powerbrokers accept their planned retention will not be easy.
Beale is happy at the Broncos, but he is due for a major upgrade after rocketing into the New Zealand Test side in the past 12 months.
The Courier-Mail understands the New Zealand Warriors could also be an option for Beale, with the club’s Test contingent recently speaking to their New Zealand teammate about the positives of playing across the Tasman.
