As expected from yesterday’s re-signing of Michael Morgan, the North Queensland Cowboys have closed the door on Sydney Roosters captain Braith Anasta.

North Queensland were keen on Anasta, given he could provide back-up next season as both Morgan and Thompson continue to develop, before a long-term move to lock forward.

Fearing they could be merely a pawn for Anasta to gain extra leverage to secure a new long-term deal, the Cowboys informed the Roosters they will not formally chase his signature.

The Cowboys will start 2011 with Morgan and Ray Thompson vying for a halves position beside star half-back Johnathan Thurston.
