Paul Green will be the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys’ new NRL head coach after this afternoon accepting a two-year contract.
A member of the Cowboys squad in 1999 and 2000, Green will start his new position once he finishes his duties as assistant coach with the Sydney Roosters who play in the NRL grand final against Manly on Sunday.
He is the first former Cowboy to return to the club as head coach.
After a 162-game NRL career and seven State of Origin appearances for Queensland, including becoming the first Cowboy to play Origin for the Maroons, Green switched to coaching with Brisbane and then took Wynnum-Manly to back-to-back premierships in the Intrust Super Cup.
He was also in charge of the Queensland Residents team in 2012 and this season took the Roosters under-20s to the NYC finals as well as acting as assistant to head coach Trent Robinson.
North Queensland CEO Peter Jourdain said the Cowboys were delighted to have secured Green for the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
