Sydney Roosters captain Boyd Cordner admitted he is confused about what is considered a shoulder charge after Billy Slater was cleared to play in the NRL Grand Final.
Slater was last night cleared to play in the NRL decider after having his grade one shoulder charge on Cronulla winger Sosaia Feki in the preliminary final overturned.
Cordner told Triple M’s The Grill Team that he expected Slater to be cleared for the grand final but is now unsure what constitutes shoulder charge.
“I always thought he would play. I think everyone did. Either way there was going to be some noise about it. Everyone, just move on. We were preparing for Billy to play anyway,” Cordner said.
"After that I don’t know what a shoulder charge is anymore. I think you’re all sitting there thinking the same thing,” Cordner said.
“Although it’s good to have a legend of our game and one of the best ever play his last game a grand final, on the other hand you sit there scratching your head about what are the rules around that."
“For me it’s a shoulder charge."
“We can’t do much about it. We’re playing the Storm with a full-strength team.”
The Roosters have issues of their own leading into the game, with the fitness of Cooper Cronk the main worry.
Cronk suffered "severe" damage to his rotator cuff in the Roosters' preliminary final win over South Sydney and is unlikely to play against the Storm.
“It doesn’t look too good at the moment but there’s a slight chance, if I was to back anyone in it would be Cooper Cronk,” Cordner said.
“He’s the first one on the physio table and he’s doing everything he can. It wouldn’t surprise us if he plays on Sunday.
“I think the impact on the group he has, his experience and talk is invaluable. He’ll stand up through the week because if anyone knows what grand final week is all about it’s him.”
