Pen to paper soon

St George Illawarra Dragons centre Matt Cooper is poised to sign a contract extension that would make him a one-club man in a massive boost for his side leading into today’s blockbuster against the Bulldogs at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Cooper has been in talks with St George Illawarra about a one – or two-year extension – and could put pen to paper as soon as this week.

The veteran three-quarter, who has played all of his football at the Dragons since making his first-grade debut in 2000, will shun lucrative offers from Super League clubs. The development is a show of faith in incoming coach Steve Price and a fillip for the club before the Heritage Round encounter.
