Despite reports that ‘‘two or three’’ clubs were chasing Houston, it never seemed in doubt that he would return to the Knights.
The 25-year-old voluntarily terminated his contract with the Knights in March after becoming the second Newcastle player charged with drugs offences. However Houston was cleared of all charges when there was insufficient evidence to prove any of the four counts he had been accused off.
Negotiations with Newcastle captain Kurt Gidley and hooker Isaac De Gois, who are off contract at the end of 2011, are continuing but have been delayed by the Houston talks.
The Knights are confident, however, of extending Gidley’s tenure until the end of 2013 and re-signing De Gois until the end of 2014 and hope to secure their signatures early next month.
