Catalans Dragons have joined the hunt for disgraced Australian rugby league international Joel Monaghan.

Warrington have agreed to provide a refuge for the 28-year-old, who quit Canberra Raiders earlier this month following the publication on the internet of a lewd photograph of him, as he decides on his next move.

The NSW winger, who was a member of Australia’s World Cup final team in 2008, is currently staying with his older brother, Warrington hooker Michael Monaghan, and has been given permission to train alongside him at the Wolves.

“Because of the family connection and a request from Michael, we have agreed for Joel to train with us in the short term until he finds himself a club,” said a Warrington spokesperson.

Catalans Dragons have a vacancy on their overseas quota following the decision of Dane Carlaw to return to Australia.

Monaghan has told friends he will not make a decision on his future until consulting his family when he returns home for Christmas but Catalans’ new coach Trent Robinson is hopeful of snaring the player.
