Nathan Brown reckons halfback Trent Hodkinson could find playing Origin for NSW easier than playing for the Knights at the moment.

The Newcastle coach said after training on Tuesday that he expected Blues coach Laurie Daley to retain Hodkinson at No.7 for this year’s series opener against Queensland in three weeks despite the Knights star’s modest form this season.

The 27-year-old played all six games in the past two Origin series and starred in NSW’s drought-breaking win in 2014, scoring a 71st-minute try and kicking the conversion in the Blues’ series-clinching 6-4 victory in game two.

Brown expected Hodkinson’s past exploits to sway Daley at the selection table.
