Nathan Brown believes Mitch Barnett could make an impact at the Knights.

But whether the fringe Canberra forward or any other player ends up in Newcastle before the June 30 deadline hinges on a number of factors, including the future of Tariq Sims.

Sims has signed a three-year deal with St George Illawarra from next season.

Knights chief executive Matt Gidley said on Monday that he would “prefer Tariq to roll up his sleeves and play out the season’’.
