Darren Nichols

The Brisbane Broncos have nabbed an experienced half from out of the South Sydney Rabbitohs’ system to provide cover for the Broncos stocks.

Darren Nicholls was stuck behind South Sydney guns John Sutton and Adam Reynolds as he awaited a crack at the NRL last year.

He captained the Rabbitohs’ reserve grade side, the North Sydney Bears, into the semi-finals, and was named as five-eighth and captain of the 2013 NSW Cup Team of the Year.

A Wests Tigers junior, Nicholls now finds himself in the Broncos’ squad after the club grabbed him before the June 30 cut-off date.

Arriving last week, Nicholls slid in straight away, steering affiliate club the Norths Devils to a victory over the impressive PNG Hunters in the Queensland Cup last Sunday.

Now he is focussing on working hard in the Broncos’ squad and awaiting a chance.
