Greg Bird
A Titan in 2012

Controversial Gold Coast Titans player Greg Bird has broken his silence on constant speculation over a move to the Cronulla Sharks next season, to pledge his loyalty to the Titans.

Bird last night shot down rumours he would rejoin the Sharks, saying his focus was on the Gold Coast and helping the club turn around its `awful’ 2011 season.

While he has been forced to deny rumours of a move before, Bird said he chose to take the talk a compliment rather than a distraction.

“It doesn’t bother me to be honest,” Bird said.

“I sort of think of it as a compliment that people are talking about me or (are saying) that people want me.

“I’ve had that attitude from the start.

“I know where I am and Michael Searle and John Cartwright know where I am, so that’s all I really care about.”

Bird was sacked by Cronulla in 2008 after being charged with assaulting his former girlfriend — a charge on which he was convicted but had overturned on appeal.

“We were awful last year. We’ve got a lot of work to do,” Bird said with brutal honesty.
