The Warriors may be locked in a race with the Gold Coast Titans to sign Shaun Berrigan if the former Australian international leaves the Super League a year early.

The 32-year-old, who played 13 tests for the Kangaroos and 15 times for Queensland, has a season left on his Hull contract.

Reports have suggested the hooker, who can also play at centre, wants a release from his deal. He has also been linked with the North Queensland Cowboys, the Titans and his former club, the Brisbane Broncos.

It’s likely coach Ivan Cleary would use Berrigan mainly at centre and he’d be a suitable replacement for Brent Tate, now with the Cowboys.

But given they’ll be without Ian Henderson, after he signed with French Super League outfit Les Catalans, Berrigan could also be used as cover at hooker for Aaron Heremaia. If the Warriors are successful, he would be the third big-name 2011 signing alongside former Parramatta Eels stars Feleti Mateo and Krisnan Inu.
