Priority re-signing for Storm
The Melbourne Storm will move to secure five-eighth Gareth Widdop on a long-term deal as the club starts positioning itself for the future just a week after winning the grand final.
Widdop has made himself a valuable cog in the Storm's attacking wheel since his debut early in 2010.
The 23-year-old England Test half is one of two internationals off contract for next season, the other being 22-year-old New Zealand winger Matt Duffie .
Winger Justin O'Neill , 21, is also off contract and, along with forwards Jesse Bromwich and Kevin Proctor , the club is building its next generation around them.
From that group, Widdop's signing is the most urgent as Storm expects him to attract a lot of interest from other clubs.
