Considering playing one more year
The New Zealand Warriors will learn early next week whether George Carmont will accept an offer to join the club on a second-tier contract.
Since indicating he was rethinking his retirement, Carmont has received an offer to return to the Wigan Warriors and also been sounded out by Leeds Rhinos. The 34-year-old Aucklander will meet Warriors’ general manager of football Dean Bell early next week to discuss the club’s one-year, second-tier offer.
While he would be a fulltime player and provide cover for an undermanned outside back division, such a deal would mean Carmont’s salary would not count under the main cap. NRL clubs can spend A$4.4 million ($5.5 million) on their top 25 contracted players, and an additional A$350,000 on players outside of that primary squad.

The guy is 34yrs old are you warriors serious
When space is so important in the salary cap when it comes to recruitment and retention do the warriors really need to contemplate signing carmont. Especially with hurrell and nielsen already on their books
Why would they bother with him he was only ever an ok player at the Knights they let him go because he was’nt really good enough and noone else in the NRL wanted him he has played well over there but really its about as good as our NSW cup standard and he is 34 but good luck to them i guess .
Super league way above nsw cup man easily
read the whole thing… his signing will not affect the salary cap, and it means mannering & henry wont be playing in the centres as cover anymore. brilliant business/footy logic. He’s not there to push hurrell out, hurrell will prove himself and will be at the top of his game very early on in the season.
Watched his Wigan tries 2012.Nothing special.More suited to Vulcans. But at 34,he’ll be driving a Segway onto the field
