The New Zealand Warriors will learn early next week whether George Carmont will accept an offer to join the club on a second-tier contract.
Since indicating he was rethinking his retirement, Carmont has received an offer to return to the Wigan Warriors and also been sounded out by Leeds Rhinos. The 34-year-old Aucklander will meet Warriors' general manager of football Dean Bell early next week to discuss the club's one-year, second-tier offer.
While he would be a fulltime player and provide cover for an undermanned outside back division, such a deal would mean Carmont's salary would not count under the main cap. NRL clubs can spend A$4.4 million ($5.5 million) on their top 25 contracted players, and an additional A$350,000 on players outside of that primary squad.
