Kelly added to Titans training squad
The Gold Coast Titans have thrown former Cronulla Sharks back Albert Kelly an NRL lifeline, signing the utility on a part-time trial deal.
Kelly has not played in the NRL since 2011 and was sacked midway through the 2012 campaign by the Sharks following a string of off-field incidents.
The 21-year-old, who can play halfback or fullback, then trained with the Newcastle Knights but had his NSW Cup contract torn up in June after smashing a light at a Newcastle nightclub.
Kelly is the third off-season recruit for the Titans with 19-year-old English fullback Matt Russell signing a two-year deal while former Canberra lower-grade prop Mark Ioane has signed a one-year deal.
All three will join Queensland representative David Taylor as new faces at the club when the Titans’ pre-season begins on November 5.
I truly hope that Albert takes this opportunity by both hands and just grabs it, not waste it. At 21, he has many, many years of football left in him.
So do I. I’ve seen him play, he’s like Preston Campbell. Would be a great addition to any club, and he’s a possible candidate to the successor of Prince. But I honestly hope we have enough $$$$ For 2013 to buy Thurston!

He is Greg Inglis’s cousin. He has some well documented trouble with the law, alcohol is the root of all of his troubles. He is an extremely good player.

He is a very talented 5/8, but it puzzles me why the article says he can play fullback! Can’t remember what game it was but when Ricky Stuart tried him in that position for a few games he dropped every, and I mean EVERY high ball that went up. Was really bad. A great ball player though, awesome passing technique!

I was disappointed when the Sharkies HAD to let him go.
Hopefully he makes a go of it at the Titans and plays really well (but not too well against the Sharkies).
As the saying goes “3 strikes………………” so this must be his last chance.
Let’s hope that he’s learnt his lesson, cos he’s great to watch and cold be anything one day.
