Three-year deal with Manly
Boom New Zealand Warriors prop Ligi Sao has signed a three-year deal with the Manly Sea Eagles.
The Manurewa Marlins junior made the headlines recently after allegedly being bitten on the wrist by Cronulla Sharks Toyota Cup player Daniel Moroko.
Considered one of the hottest prospects in the NRL, Sao was part of the Warriors’ under-20s grand final winning team last season and will join Geoff Toovey’s top squad in 2013.
Manly recruitment manager David Warwick was elated to secure 20-year-old Sao.
“Ligi is one of the leading front rowers in the Toyota Cup,” he said.

This kid is a BEAST..Very suprised NZ let him go, a definite star in the future!
manly eels pffft lets see-hodkinson,trex,lyon,taufua,robson,robinson,buhrer,wolfman,just to name a few manly have pinched of parra over the years typical reply by a winging wally wanker manly fan
Bulldog 2012, dont think you should be shouting out about manly and who they’ve had previously/currently at the club. how bout your dogs huh, you can’t tell me they’ve brought many juniors through lately. signed nilly there whole team from other clubs… think before you get to carried away bud. they arn’t called the Bull-poaches for no reason.
Its not really poaching if the players werent wanted/ given a chance at Parramatta? One of the problems of having the largest catchment is that you have thousands of kids and only like 30 spots in an NRL squad. You should redirect your anger at the Parra management whose player evaluation was so off that it decided to keep other players ahead of these guys. Also technically Lyon came to manly from St Helens not parra and Tafua wasnt even given a run in their NYC team so you can hardly blame Manly for poaching him. Parra would’nt even give these guys a chance! So you can’t cry foul when they turn out to be good!
The dogs produce juniors all you have to do is look at our records. The worst for not producing juniors would be manly. Currently last in nycc toyota cup.. And its been like 28 years since they won a juniors title. Canterbury buy players like all teams do. But in the meantime produce juniors and spend time and resources into junior development…the dogs r just a well organised organisation and anyone who critises us are just jealous and should just shut the hell up and worry about their own backyard.
Yet players consistently come through from SG Ball and Toyota cup and make contributions to our first grade team. I think it’s more important for the NYC to groom players for first grade than to actually win the competition. But to follow your arguement Manly’s 2009 NYC team where the minor premiers and have since provided Hoppa, Buhrer, Foran, Cherry Evans, Lussick, Oldfield, Whare to the NRL. Plus Watmough, King, Lussick, Oldfield are all Manly Juniors. I can definately see the struggles in producing players you alluded too.

no one really remembers/cares about winning junior competitions bud, two NRL premierships in the past fours years, which will be remembered for ever… the end
Where is Manurewa….. Thats in Queensland !!
Gee – 3 years is a big call for the club. He’s doing well in the Toyota Cup at the moment – but that’s not hard given that the “art of defence” is completely missing from that competition. Will be interesting to see how he goes – best of luck to the young man.
