Code change looking unlikely

Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson has begun preparing for the arrival of Sonny Bill Williams by spending a day with the dual international in Japan.

The Australian understands Robinson, who was at Roosters headquarters yesterday, met Williams while on his off-season holiday and walked away enthused about the prospect of coaching the former Canterbury star.

The same can't be said for his close friend Quade Cooper . The Roosters' newly appointed chief operating officer for football, Brian Canavan, yesterday ruled out a move for the disgruntled Wallabies star, who is yet to strike a new deal with the Australian Rugby Union and has openly spoken of his desire to play rugby league alongside Williams.

"Quade has never been mentioned so I don't think he is on the radar at all," Canavan said. "In that specific situation, you have James Maloney . There is no need for him."
