Two-year deal
The Brisbane Broncos have today agreed to a two-year deal that will bring Scott Prince back to the club he last played with in 2003.
Prince, who played with the Broncos between stints with the Cowboys, Tigers and Titans, will be back in a maroon and gold jersey for the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
The Titans gave the 32-year-old a release from the final year of his contract yesterday, with the included severance package providing the opportunity for the Broncos to ink Prince’s signature.
Prince has played 278 NRL matches, 29 of them with the Broncos between 2001 and 2003.

Good on him. =P. At least this drama has been put to bed now. =P.
he’s abit old but great signing none the less
So I guess JT going to the broncos will definitely not happen now.
No it won’t be happening then :/ but hopefully prince can give Norman, hunt and Wallace some experience and hopefully in two years they are able to step up to the plate and play some real good footy.
nope, he wants to go to penrith LOL
Awesome!!! Prince @ 7 & Wallace @ 6
It should be really good! Hopefully Norman goes back to fullback and yow yeh can come back and we can find a hooker to replace McCollough!
Brisbane are going to be extremely strong next season. They needed to fix their halves and they have. Put Norman at fullback and lose Hoffman.
Agreed. But we also need to fix our hooker problem too.
Nothing wrong will the bloke you have mate. He’ll come good. He’s still young.
Yeah he is still young. He just suffers from white line fever. He always goes himself from a couple meters out. Even on the fifth. Quite frustrating. Hopefully he pulls it out of his game soon.
I actually think he plays really similar to the way Cameron Smith plays, with age he may come incredibly good
I agree with Titans Riley. McCollough is a superstar. He will be better than Smith if he keeps doing what his doing. His calm and strong just like Smith. Just Smith is a grub that gets away with everything. I am not the only person who thinks McCollough is something.
He used to go for it every time he had the chance, but he doesn’t anymore. He cut down on his incredibly readable dummies too. Last season was a great one for him, I’d say he’s ahead of Ballin as Smith’s Origin replacement.
One thing the broncs are good at is injury management or preventive injury management. This should be a good signing for them and a fitting ending to Princes career. I’m glad to see him stay in the NRL and not be lost to the SL like so many others.
well put pedro!
Good to see him come back home if it was not for his injurys he would have never left. I think he will get the number 6 Wallace plays best at half back I say give Norman the flick but it depends on who else is leaving
Might force Corey Norman into lock…….
Norman is not a lock. He is a 5/8 or fullback. They will hopefully kick Hoffman to the Wing to replace Beale, (but then what about Copley?) and Norman should go fullback.
what happens to Dropley?
who cares
Prince is a players player he will bring alot of experience positive feel to the group. The broncos young group are going to benefit alot from this signing.
I have question for the Broncos fans. Supposedly your team did not have the salary cap to keep arguably one of your best players this year in Ben Teo and now you guys sign Scott Prince. Are you guys happy about Prince signing but losing Teo?
I understand that Lockyer(250k) left last year and that cash went to Petero and now he has retired, and Beale left but surely he must not have been commanding huge sums. And other than those 3 players no one else has left and apparently the majority of the younger talent has been signed up this year to signifcantly increased deals. Where has this extra cash come from?
Lockyer was on a lot more then 250k. Back when I was a die hard Broncos fan (up until 2006 awesome how my last year of supporting them was the year they won the comp and I was at the grandfinal too! btw I still support them just not as much) Lockyer was on about 350k then, so 2011 he must of been on like 500-600k. Petero would be 300k, Teo 200k and Beale 150k. So that’s 550k in spare room. Prince would be on 200-300k and they still have at minimum 250k on the Salary Cap.
250k and yet they still couldnt retain Teo? It has been well documented that Lockyer was listed on the salary cap for 250k not 600k.
Prove that listing, I’d love to see it.
http://m.brisbanetimes.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/what-the-broncos-would-cost-your-team-20100814-1240b.html Brisbane paper or manly paper. Which one is correct?
“The figure would put Hopoate ahead of Cowboys star Johnathan Thurston who earns $750,000 a year and Broncos legend Darren Lockyer who reportedly had a total annual salary of $700,000″ – http://manly-daily.whereilive.com.au/news/story/missionary-man-worth-17m/
Woah and the ‘Salary Cap Auditor’ thought he was on 250k…
http://m.smh.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/greek-bean-counters-could-learn-a-thing-or-two-from-leaguenomics-20120325-1vspv.html and another that has him at 250k. Yes he may have been close to the highest player in the comp but he was only listed at 250k under the cap
yeh, you are correct – 250K is also listed in an old contract link in zero tackle, the difference must be third party payments…
Also don’t forget we have a fair bit left over from hunt, folau, and then inglis. I don’t think we ever fully used up the money that made available when they left. As all those youngsters you talk about would struggle to be in our top 25 paid.
250K>>>?? try 650K in his final two years…
I heard that Lockyer was on around 300K on the cap and 700k third party deals.
You Are forgeti.g salary cap increase plus teo is not a half back why spend money on forwards when you playmakers …money is allocated for
each area plus inglis was a five year deal ……
Ben teo is good player and i wish he could have stayed. But he had bad habbit of playing his best footy when he was off contract.
The Broncos have finally got a good half and he will bring alot of experience to the Broncos backline
Best dummy of the year thrown by Prince, Titans released him to go to the UK to play for Hull and he turns around and signs up with the enemy.
I can hear the Dragon’s fans rejoicing, but I’m not sure why.
we could have done with him for sure – but you cant carry sour grapes about it. We are screwed next year for the half back position. i said this before and for all the hater’s out there that dont agree i dont care but Horndog was a big loss for us… he was the glue that kept what we had left in attack- Prince would have been a welcomed band aid -even if it was for two years.
I’ve heard that saints are saving up cash for Thurston and Bellamy. But then again it’s all rumours and will never probably happen. C’mon Joshy Drinkwater!!!
thats because we wanted hornby out because he was past his best why would we want a half who is older and is past there best as well.
CC- i understand what you are saying and you are right but could we not plan a little better than this – the hole in the wall is larger than just signing and hoping Josh DW can fill it up.
Its amazing the dogs didnt pull out an extra 500k to give prince since they are already well over the cap.
Dragons would be going backwards if they let go of an old halfback than signed a 32 year old half back that they could get a year out of. If that was the case why didnt they chase Finch??? Dragons are best off re building. Sell Soward Cooper Creigh Weyman and buy lots of younger guys that go off contract. They did well to snag Fritzel who will be their best player next year.
Broncos have gone baackwards big time letting go of teo who was easly their best back rower and signing a halfback when you already have Wallace and Norman. You were best off signing ayoung halfback from a different club. Dragons did it they signed a young halfback. All teams struggle when they have either a strong forward pack and lame halves (my panthers and roosters) or great halves and crap go forward (titans warriors),
Look at next year Souths have a very strong forward pack ad a great half back just Sutton is their weak link. Dragons have no halves and no go forward. Titans if they lose bird they will get the spoon becuase other than myles his all their go forward. Sharks will be strong with half of Penrith and west tigers in their side including Gallen Lewis Highington thats alot of power.
Backs you need but if your forwards aint rolling over players your backs wont get good fast ball. If your forwards are rolling over players and your halves get good fast ball but dont know how to throw a good clean ball or put guys through gaps than their aint even a use for having backs
Hold up. Saints had no go forward? They ranked up near the top of the comp for meters gained last year. Our problem was not getting the ball over line and that comes down to the halves with which you are correct. However, prince would not have solved that for us. We already have one half who won’t challenge the line why would we want 2.
As for the broncos signing him well, I think it is a step back for them. What happened to the youth policy? He is not the answer to the broncos attacking woes which as bad if not worse than ours towards the end of the season.
John sutton a weak link Jennings fan? you are dribbling champ. The bloke gets shanks like you saying his weak and others saying he is not a 5/8 but the rabbits have been top 5 in attack since 2008 and Sutton has been top of try assists for rabbits every year since then. If he worked a little more on his kicking game he would be best 5/8 in comp
John Sutton was one of the most improved this year. The fact that he had a solid consistent number 7 inside helped him greatly and improved his consistency
I think that is now time for Sutton to move to lock, but Souths still need another 5/8. I am still not convinced that Adam Reynolds is as good as so many others think he is.
Half of Prince’s salary will be paid by the Titans.
Ben Te’o left because he is a mercenary and wanted a full time starting spot.
If that was the case about titans paying half Princes wage wouldnt almost every club want in on hm
Prince wanted to stay in QLD and the Cowboys don’t need him.
I’m sorry @HFiteni, but you are totally wrong bout the hooker problem. He is in the top three best hookers in the country and in the top seven in the world, so you can take your love fro the game and your dislike for good hookers somewhere else. You probably back the blues aswell, you see the next man in for C Smith and the Broncos have got to get rid of him just so he won’t carve up the blues like smithy has been.
Mate, I am a broncos and maroons supporter through an through. I don’t think he is in the top 3 in Australia or the top 7 for for the world. That’s a big statement. Look he made it into first grade with one of the best sides in the comp so he has got a lot of skill, and ill admit i was wrong calling him shit. but I honestly think he is a little too selfish. But that will hopefully come with age, and I hope your right about him being one day as good as smith. He just needs to get over his white line fever. It let the broncos down a lot this year when on the 5th he would try to get over from dummy half.
And stop the stupid grubber kicks into defenders on the line. He had his best year. I think next year he will shine . I think hes overtaken ballin and is next in line for maroons hooker
Yes those kicks need to stop too. And ballin having a quiet year helps with that. But I do hope for the broncos sake that he really can shine and become a great player. Possibly the next captain after thiaday?
I think Prince is a good fit for the Broncs. To their credit, they have had a good junior programme & have stuck by it. They are certainly not an old team & Prince will give them 2 years of experience that they were clearly lacking this year.
There was a case for the Dragons chasing him but I agree with Jennings Fan…swapping Hornby for Prince, no thanks. Hopefully they put plenty of energy into Drinkwater & Stanley.
If I was coaching Saints, I would have taken Prince. He would have given us a proper halfback to partener with Kyle at 5/8. It would give Drinkwater a year to 2 to make first grade if he is good enough or time to target someone else.
I think this a good call the Broncos need this change urgently after all the defeats towards the end of the season. our halves pair does not work prince is much needed relief. yes teo was a big loss but I think will do better when the new team gels together.
Rumour is norman heading to the warriors.
Titans paying broncos $200,000 a year for prince. Broncs only paying $75,000 a year so he be on $275,000 for two years. Bargain!!! No other club would have had the chance to grab him he wanted to stay in Queensland with young family and he chose broncs they didn’t chase him.
I think you have this wrong. The 200k will be listed under the titans salary cap for 2013 however he is only contracted with the titans for 2013 so in 2014 it will fall under the broncos cap. This doesn’t mean the titans will be paying the broncos
This would be just another reason Brisbane needs a second team. Broncos can sure thank Mr Grant for putting expansion on hold so they can maintain their strangle hold on a city with a population of 2 million.
and what is wrong with brisbane having a strangle hold on it’s own city’s players? just because nsw decided to have a nrl club for every suburb of sydney doesn’t mean brisbane should too? quit crying
Still hearing rumours that Sam Williams is being shopped around! stay tuned to where he ends up!!!
Well done Princey.
It should have been Cartwright and Seale that should have went.Cartwright definately an overrated coach.
i think that it was a really silly option for prince to quit the titans now because lets look at how this could’ve ended up. He retires after the last 2 years on his titans contract, goes over to hull and signs a 4 year deal which would set him for life (money is bigger, and lets face it, super league is an NRL retirement comp.) anyway the titans, if they choose to sign sam williams, will have a great and really strong team next year. With the addition of dave taylor in the side, our forward back should be really hard to beat. Give the backs in the team a bit of time to gel together adn i think that there just might be something in it for them. Signing Albert Kelly aswell, i reckon Kelly (5/8) and williams (1/2 Back). This would be my team for next year;
1. Zillman
2. Gordon
3. Idris
4. Champion
5. Mead
6. Sezer
7. Williams
8. Bailey
9. Srama
10. Myles
11. Taylor
12. Bird
13. Harrison
14. Kelly
15. Russell
16. Minichello
17. Beau Falloon
18. Ben Ridge
19. Mark Ioane
20. Beau Henry
your gay
2013 broncos line up (what I think it should be):
1) Norman
2) Hoffman
3) Reed
4) Hodges
5) Yow Yeh
6) Prince
7) Wallace
8) Hannett
9) McCollough
10) McGuire
11) Glenn
12) Thaiday
13) Parker
14) Hunt
15) Gillett
16) Hala
17) Dodds
Although young. That is a top 8 side I believe. Great go forward with a striking backline.
that is a decent side mate, prince and wallace in the halves. Wallace could learn a lot from princey in the time that he is there. are you sure you don’t want Dale Copley in there, he was playing some great footy towards the back end of the season?
Your right, he did end up playing some good footy, but the broncos have spent to much time and money on Hoffman/Norman for one just to be dropped to Qld cup. And yeah, Wallace is gunna have a great year under princey. At rd 9. He was 1 point off the top of the dally m leader board. He just lost his confidence when Pearce got picked over him for state of origin. (I think he should be given another shot, even though its for the blues :/ ) but I am looking forward to 2013.
yeah mate, bring on 2013! and GO THE TITANS!
my 2013 ladder predictions:
1. broncos (call me biased but i believe there young talant will really open up next yr, guess will just have to wait and see)
2. storm (good side but i think the broncs young gun side will pull away but will be a close 2nd)
3. rabbitos (big strong team that i think will click better this yr)
4.bulldogs (still an impressive side but due to others sides coming outta there shells and a couple of player losses don’t think they will be as dominant as they were this yr)
5.sharks (team full of talent but still think they need another yr or 2 or even 3 to gel)
6.cowboys (top side but i believe there are 5 better)
7.manly (good side but i think the loss of players and the 2nd yr without des is gonna prove tough and make them fall of the horse abit, notice i said abit not alot and i could be wrong on this one but i guess we’ll just have to wait and see)
8.raiders (strong side that should def make top 8)
9.titans (good side but the loss of prince and bodene thompson will have a big impact on there guidance, in my opinion)
10.knights (good side, good coach but i don’t think it is there time, yet.)
11.eels (despite being wooden spooners this yr i think we will see abit of a turn around with the eels now they have ricky stuart as coach and signed up izzy folou)
12.roosters (lost a few good players including a very experienced 1 “anasta” which i think will kill there structure alittle bit, and i dont think SBW will be enough to save them, my opinion)
13.warriors (decent side but all these club issues and new coaches will prove tough for the warriors in 2013 i think)
14.panthers (taken heavy losses from other clubs and are not a very good side to begin with, honestly can’t see them making the top ten)
15.tigers (another club that has taken heavy losses, cant see them making top ten)
16.dragons (i don’t know why i have picked the dragons for the spoon, i guess it could be just there bad management and shit coach)
I’m really surprised but its all right he will still be a good player anyway
