Two-year deal with Cowboys
Signing one of the brightest backline prospects on the market came with a bittersweet twist for the Cowboys yesterday.
North Queensland’s exciting news that they had snared promising young Sydney Roosters centre Curtis Rona was tempered by the revelation that his signature had come at the expense of Mosese Pangai.
The Cowboys had been desperate to retain Pangai, but he informed the club recently that he wished to return to Sydney. With the 20-year-old back – who made his NRL debut in round one – having family, friends and a partner based in the New South Wales capital, football manager Peter Parr said they respected his decision.
Rona, who had long been on North Queensland recruitment manager Adrian Thomson’s radar and was signed to a two-year deal, is expected to be an excellent replacement. At 194cm and 105kg, the 20-year-old is big and strong and possesses plenty of pace.

Where will Pangai go?
I hope he comes to Easts Pangai is actually better than Rona
@Anton Landrige it was only Liam Foran that played with us and btw scratch Foran and Winterstein add Tamou, Soward, Shillington, Blacklock, Rose, Ayshford, Crocker
nearly every club can tell this story, eels worst for it
Would have been great to keep him at the Cowboys but he wanted to be closer to his family I think Moses is a great talent and any club that signs him have done well.
