Two-year deal to coach Warriors
Matt Elliott will be the next coach of the New Zealand Warriors.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal the former Panthers coach has been given the job for two seasons.
It ends weeks of speculation about the vacant Warriors position and comes the day after Melbourne premiership-winning coach Craig Bellamy rejected a $4 million offer to cross the Tasman.
He has been given the Warriors job despite a score of candidates, including Kangaross coach Tim Sheens, David Kidwell and Stephen Kearney.
It is understood an announcement will be made either tomorrow or Saturday.

I hope he can manage all of his kids and the team better than he did in Cheaper by the Dozen 1. That was a shambles. Also interesting to see he has made the move to rugby league from American Football.
As a Penrith Panthers fan, I honestly wish the Warriors the best of luck, you’ll need it.
Man…….. not sure if he the right dude for the job i think he is a bit soft and he can’t manage a roster look and the stupid money jennings is on all the back ended contracts he managed to stuff up. I just hope he learns from his mistakes which were a lot of them…..

Considering Hurrell’s stellar debut season, I think he is a better player then both Ropati and Neilsen. And if the Warriors don’t play him, I think he’ll most likely sign with another club who’ll pay more and give him a starting centre position.

Ivan Cleary is an excellent coach. He left the Warriors in great shape. Next year, I am afraid the Warriors will be in a bad shape, things will improve for the Panthers.

Give the guy a chance. With the roster he has at the Warriors he has the chance to prove us all wrong. We can comment all we like, he’s got the job and we havn’t. He probably knows its his last chance so lets see how he goes. At least its not Smith.
Matt had 5 years at the Panthers and did sweet bugger all in that time. I believe that Matt and Brian are as bad as each other.

According to the Daily Telegraph, there is already a player revolt at the Warriors. Their players quite simply do not want Matt Elliott to coach them next year.
The Warriors Board should be listening to the Warriors players.
If it is true i dont blame the players for having a revolt there.

word around camp is that some of the warriors arnt happy with this decision and have void in their contacts. shaun johnson is talking to the sharks, umm elijah wants tony Iro as their coach. and Mateo whats to reunite with old friend inuo at the doggies.

Everyone says they want a hard arse coach. Can someone remind me of when Tony Iro became that person??? Since when did players choose the coach?? Why didn’t they complain last year before Bluey came in??
Everyone wanted Bellamy until we couldn’t get him. There’s only 2 coaches just as good as Bellamy if not better, and they’re coaching Kinghts and Doggies. We couldn’t have gotten much better than elliot. Sheens and Neil Henry were free in 2014. Or there was Steve Folks. But seriously, a player revolt? It’s stupid! With that attitude, no wonder we’re looking at having a worse year than this year!!! Get your act together management. Get your act together team! Or we’ll look stupid this year!
Dont understand why people do not rate Elliot. He is no super coach I understand that. I have never been coached by him so I can only judge out side looking in.
He has a very good record.
Coached Bradford Bulls for 5 seasons Won the league one year and made finals every year.
Coached Canberra Raiders Top 8 4/5 seasons.
Coached Penrith to 2nd in 2010. Only made Finals Once out of 4 1/2 seasons.
When he took over at Penrith they had not made the finals for a few seasons. Getting results at Penrith is no easy job as Ivan has found out.
He deserves a chance for 12 months, he couldn’t possibly do any worse then Mclennan. Good luck Matthew and Warriors, the NRL is a more exciting competition when the Warriors perform well.

Ivan has only been in the position for 1 season, give the man a chance. Under Matt Elliott the players were aloud to rule the roost.
