Likely backup for Buderus
Canberra Raiders discard Travis Waddell could be the man to provide Danny Buderus’s ageing legs with some respite next season.
The Newcastle Herald understands the Newcastle Knights are well advanced in negotiations with Waddell, who has been released by the Raiders after playing 53 NRL games for the Green Machine.
“I still haven’t made up my mind what I’m going to do,” Waddell said yesterday.
“All I know is I need a fresh start, and get my name back out there again. There’s no hate or anything there [with the Raiders], they’ve got to do what they have to do.”
The 23-year-old made 21 top-grade appearances this season but did not feature in Canberra’s play-off games against Cronulla and South Sydney.
The Raiders believe they have the hooking role covered next season by Glen Buttriss and veteran Shaun Berrigan.
