One-year deal with Cowboys
Seven years after he left the NRL to play with the Catalans Dragons in Super League, Clint Greenshields has decided to rejoin the Telstra Premiership as a member of the North Queensland Cowboys.
The fullback/centre signed a one-year contract with the Cowboys today and will join the team in pre-season training in late November.
Greenshields played 36 matches, including five finals, for the St George Illawarra Dragons between 2004 and 2006 before making what some judges viewed as a surprise decision to switch to Super League as a 24-year-old.
Cowboys General Manager – Football Peter Parr said securing the fullback added more depth to North Queensland’s backline for the 2013 season.

greenshields is a good player. leading tryscorer in the short history at catalans. he might not get much time though. seeming as though bowens fullback and JT 5/8
I agree, the Cowboys backline is set for next year so I don’t see him getting much game time in the starting side but he may pay from the bench as a utility.
Maybe they will move Bowen to the halves and put him in at fullback. I think Bowen could be pretty lethal in the halves.
Maybe it is what Bowen needs spark again…
Bowen doesn’t need a spark. He is in career best form and finished runner up in the Dally Ms. And giving Bowen the extra defensive workload as a half may be too much at the back end of his career. Michael Morgan has the spot held down for the moment and Neil Henry loved Robert Lui as a footy player so if his suspension is lifted he would the next in line. I don’t see any value in moving Bowen into the halves as for once there are multiple candidates to act as a foil for Thurston. And Greenshields is not a good enough player to push Bowen out of his fullback position.
Cutters or Pride?
Northern Pride for sure haha
He’s signed as back up for Bowen and as a possible back-up dummyhalf.
1 Matthew Bowen
2 Ashley Graham
3 Brent Tate
4 Kane Linnett
5 Antonio Winterstein
6 Johnathan Thurston
7 Ray Thompson
8 Matthew Scott
9 Scott Moore
10 James Tamou
11 Tariq Sims
12 Gavin Cooper
13 Dallas Johnson
14 Clint Greenshields
15 Jason Taumalolo
16 Ashton Sims
17 Rory Kostjasyn
Kostjasyn and Greenshields on the bench? Glenn Hall has been one of our most underated and consistent players for the last two seasons and he’ll definitely have a spot on the neck at the very least. And I haven’t heard if Scott Moore was a done deal yet. Ray Thompson has always been a very good player of structure but hasn’t been able to adapt his own individual game yet unlike Morgan who is showing a lot of confidence and is taking on the line. He has also drastically improved his defence.
I predict the team will be
1. M. Bowen
2. A. Graham
3. B. Tate
4. K. Linnett
5. A. Winterstein (should be kalifa)
6. J. Thurston
7. M. Morgan/R. Lui
8. M. Scott
9. R. Thompson
10. J. Tamou
11. G. Cooper
12. T. Sims
13. D. Johnson
14. A. Mitchell
15. G. Hall
16. A. Sims
17. J. Taumalolo
Rory Kosjasyn will be 18th man and can play in a number of positions
That looks pretty much spot on. Although Greenshields may get the benxh spot ahead of Mitchell. And the club has been chasing Scott Moore to fill Payne’s olace at hooker but with the scquisition of Greendhields that now looks unlikely. And I wouldn’t be surprised if Kalifa asks for a release because he has clearly fallen out of favour with Neil Henry who has put Winterstein (who has had a graat year) ahead of him and even Pangai at the beginning of the year. He is such a talented player and I’d imagine there are plenty of teams who would be more than happy to snap him up. And with the players coming through the 20s it’s almost pointless having Kalifa on the payroll if you’re not going to put him in first grade.
I think they will be looking to get rid of either graham or winterstein cause they r both off contract, that could give kalifa a chance and there are a lot of big names off contract next year that we should try and keep
I’d think Kosjasyn would be a shot at the starting hooker spot… but again, he’s capable of a number of spots, so the utility spot suits him
they should put him on as starting hooker
