Set to play rugby union overseas
The Parramatta Eels and the NRL will announce on Friday that Israel Folau will not play rugby league next season after the cross-code star advised the club that he has taken up a lucrative offer to play rugby union.
Folau, who announced on November 1 he was leaving AFL club the Greater Western Sydney Giants, had been involved in protracted negotiations with Parramatta and NRL to return to the code next season.
Fairfax Media understands that the NRL and Parramatta Eels had come to an agreement to fit Folau under the salary cap, but the player has opted to take a higher offer.
Hungry Money Player , if he really wanted to play nrl he would’ve taken the 350k for one season. His personality is almost similar to $BW, i hate players that are all giving fans the news of were there going and than turning there backs on them the next minute.
Nrl is a disgrace they let gasiner and lote sign on less money than the eels wanted to sign folau and they were has beens Foley is in his prime what a great thing this would have been for nrl that’s why soccer is more popular than league they help out with marque players to promote the sport
they actually got falou good money, the eels got enough for the NRL he chased the $$$ and left used the NRL to push his price up. lote is on very good pay also.

I’m a very torn Parra Fan right now. To have had in the squad for next year would have been awesome, but having the cap rules bent would have caused all sorts of flow on issues. But then the ARLC could have extended everyone’s cap months ago after the new deal was signed and Parra might have been able to do the deal (and Manly with Stewart). But then how loyal is this clown? One minute he wants to play league, then he’s off to play another game he doesn’t know, so is he just another $BW? (hope he enjoys getting no ball and being bored shitless on the end of a rugby backline, most boring game on earth). Back to the commission, they are not doing things in the best interest of League right now. They have a CEO who referred to the competition in his first interview, they have stars threatening to boycott, they haven’t signed the $1B deal, they have a loser in Grant calling the shots, League is going backwards, not forwards at the moment
Well said Rob. Parra should not be allowed to bend the rules but the cap should be higher & a firm decision made now! The whole Folau saga wouldn’t have happened if some decisions were made straight after the TV deal was signed.
However, I’ve got no sympathy for him going to that other decrepit game.
@Rob. I am another who thinks that the ARLC is a waste and that they are doing a worse job than Gallop was doing. I was always very skeptical about what difference an independent commission would make. The media basically kept blowing the trumpet for an independent commission. Now the media has been blowing the trumpet for the players to recieve 50K a game for origin, to the detrement of test football and now they keep and now they keep blowing the trumpet for a huge salary cap increase on top of the 600K increase already. Like the top players are on extreamly good money. The media should be calling for some of the money from the TV rights to be spent on upgrading our clubs grounds, that would be giving back to the game and the fans. No the media just keeps on talking about moving games to Homebush, Parra Stadium and the SFS. The media and the ARLC should be asking what the fans want and working out how to make the game itself richer.
There are many fans who think that the ARLC and Grant are doing a terrible job.

Bird may well go back to Cronulla, but they are already very well stocked for backrowers. They have got Lewis, Graham, Gallon, Heighington and Bukuya, with Toupu probably moving on to Parra in 14.
Bird could also go to Parra, with his close friendship with Stuart or he could even go to Newcastle.

All I can say is money talks & bulls h i t walks he wasn’t gonna sign for parramatta for the money they had left in the cap all I’m hearing is izzy will play one year in rugby then come back to the nrl in 2014 when the cap rises heaps more by then so his price tag goes up from 400k to 600k problem is the only team that will pay that much for a winger is parramatta like they did already for William hoppoate 800k & I’m sure he will play for a Sydney club but as usual time will tell.

I think Will Hoppoate will be a superstar. I wish Saints would have signed him. I think his best position will fullback, but will he play there with Hayne at Parra too? I think his second best position will be center. It was just that Manly already had Stewart at fullback and Lyon and Matai established in their centers. If he would have stayed at Manly I think they definently would have let Matai go. I would take Hoppa over Hayne at fullback for Saints, or center too.
I think Will Hoppa will justify the 800K a season that he will apparently be on, with the increased cap over the next few years.

If you put aside the hype, all he did was switch codes from AFL to Union. Which his talent is better suited too. Yes his talent would be best suited to League, but this maybe the start of his return to the NRL ( SBW- ish) Izzy isn’t the only one to blame, what about the negotiations, bureaucrats and the red tape and how these scenarios will play out in the future. When is his first boxing bout happening? He might go one further than SBW & contract with QLD to play SOO 3 times a year whilst playing rugby & boxing. That, of course, would depend on him staying injury free during the A-League season lol.

He only signed a 1 yr deal so I have a feeling he will be in the Nrl when parra can afford him n they probably told him to get a good payout next yr then come to parra when we can fit him in the cap.

He’d be an Eel by now if Ian Schubert didn’t say “no, you aren’t allowed to pay him 150 this year and back end it in the next year, pay him 400k now or watch him go to the Warratahs” Even though his job as auditor is to ensure NRL clubs DON’T go over the cap, he priced Folau at 400k which took Parra well over, even though Izzy was happy to play at 150k for the 2013 season on a back ended multi year deal
Problem with player recruitment at this stage of the season is that most teams have their roster for next year sorted, and only a handful would have a spare 400k left in the 2013 cap. So those of you that are saying he’s taking off for the money, please do know the facts
