The St George Illawarra Dragons have announced that both Shannon Wakeman and Damien Cook have agreed to respective one-year contracts that will see them join the Club until at least the end of the 2013 season.
Wakeman, 23, is a prop who was part of the Dragons National Youth Competition team between 2009-10 before signing for the Penrith Panthers in 2011.
Cook, 21, is a hooker who additionally played 24 reserve-grade games and scored 12 tries for the Cutters in their inaugural campaign.
Dragons CEO Peter Doust admits he is looking forward to the contributions both players will make to Head Coach Steve Price’s overall first-grade squad next season.

I agree about us not needing another hooker and I am very happy with Rein, but the one game that I saw Cook play last year for the Cutters he did look impressive.

Robbed 10 11 12, I have to admit I disappeared for a few years when saints merged with the Illawarra though I came back it was pretty hard to take when it happened.
Yeh I am still spewing about us merging too. We both should go back to our single identities and Cronulla should relocate and we should get our old juniors back.

Well these guys may not set the comp on fire however, they will provide great depth. On a more important note, it is good to see the club hang on to Adam Quinlan and Blake Phillips from the under 20s. This pair if they continue to develop, may very well set the comp on fire.
On another note, we seem to be signing a lot of players to 1 year deals. Is this perhaps performance based or to give a new coach the chance to mold the team as they wish?

West Coast Dragon,the St George name & guernsey would not of been maintained if not for the Illawarra district & the majority of Illawarra juniors who play for the club.I would like to see where the Red V would be without the Steel City!
doesnt matter about ifs and so on the facts are this its the st george illawarra dragons with the big red v as their jersey obviously the steelers were the weaker of the two entities hence why the name ,logo,jersey and home ground and leagues club is pretty much st george now i dont want to shit on the illawarra side of the merger coz we,re all as on now!go the dragons!!!!!!!

To robbed 10 11 12: If St George & Illawarra didn’t merge, where do you think they would be today? At a time when mergers were almost forced on some ARL clubs, the Dragons & Steelers was the most obvious one. West Coast Dragon is right in his comments, and look at how many juniors have progressed to first grade. You have to get over these things, because being a fanatic is not going to achieve anything! At least we have won a premiership and made the finals most of the time. Don’t worry about 2012, the Dragons will bounce back. There are a lot of senior players leaving and Matt Cooper & Nathan Fien will be going at the end of 2013. You might need some counselling to help overcome your deluded state of mind, and being a fellow Dragons fan, I can only have pity on you!

I honestly and pray to god that Doust gets hit by a bus sometime like very soon, that way the club can appoint a CEO who does what a CEO should do!
